Before you read, surprisingly at the time this piece won me my first poetry slam competition, it was only 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. So when they didnt call my name for third place I knew it was lol, and then they called 2nd place, started packing my bags lol and 1st place, taken by surprise when they called because there were others who had amazing pieces to compete with, this one will always be special to me.

A Mother's Prayer — Her never ending working hands comes together as one To look up to the sky only to see gray clouds That opens to poor cold rain down on earth Soaking a waitress dress, that washes away her nametag Standing in front of a poverty home of long pain Closes the tired eyes, and pray My life is a road that has been walk and drove over, for many years Leaving on the tracks behind, for me to walk through No yellow paint strip, only pain that has no color Of life to express my way of life Feeding her kids with one spoon, and a fork Cooking off a trash top can, never saw a silver spoon Only plastic and foam cups, coming home to an unlit home Dealing with two candles, one is from one window The moon shines through, to help see the wood floor Her wooden knees has splinters, open wounds that came from maid cleaning Second light, are the headlights That rides pass providing her to read her bible A small mouth cries out, mothers wakeup call When the rain rushes from the sky, right onto her face Through the hole in the roof a pot is there to collect Use for a bath for all of her family to wash their backs Is this pray not enough for hope or a fresh start New beginning, I’m praying to you in my own tears That can fill a bucket for an animal to drink The open tired eyes, separate to see the world she faces Turns around to a home seeing her children cry from a distance Only to say whip the little tears and pray A heartfelt message told in a mothers pray
