GOLD STORY - right here in Connecticut.

Less than 10 miles from where I live there is a town called Cobalt , CT. They mined cobalt for a few hundred years. Back in 1985 or so a Uconn geology professor took his students on a field trip there to visit the old mines. While poking around they found gold. High concentration of it. Higher than any mine in north america in like 100 years. It made the New York Times.

So I visited the site found the mine shafts and adits and even some cobalt and started researching. I went back all the way to the 1600s in research with some papers being in the royal society of England. Apparently there was a story supported by a paper trail involving a former Yale University President talking about a colonial era governor Winthrop who found gold and made rings in this same area in the 1600s!!

Where this all gets interesting is there is a single copy of a book in one spot with the info regarding some of the geology and it's viewable by appt only. All my research seemed to point to an area nearby on a hill that used to be called the Governor's Ring ( now called Great Hill) and this is not at the cobalt mines but maybe 1/2 mile away up the hill in the state forest.

I even found an old map with a potential location of the Governor's discard pile (rocks moved to dig or pull material).

Fast forward to this week. I just heard they are looking for people who set off explosives in this area and blew up a ledge of rock. So possibly someone else is curious. This was set off in a state forest!!

In any case it's a super cool story and the old mining history and lore is always fun when you can actually go there. Last year there was a drought and the mine brook dried up. I was able to grab some material to test out but haven't done it yet. Oddly the area is loaded with copperheads and timber rattlesnakes lol and also has an old Nike missile site nearby.

I've attached a few ai summaries and a Pic of nyt.
