A PEOPLE’S TRIBUNAL — BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE. I’m setting the intention. Throw a pebble, create a ripple. How many more reviews? How many more investigations? How many more reports? How many more deaths? More harm? And yet families are still asking the same questions: Where is the truth? Where is the transparency? Where is the accountability? Where is the change? A People’s Tribunal is different. It does not require us to sit quietly and wait for another government-commissioned review. The people organise it. The people bring the evidence. Families give their testimony. Midwives and NHS staff can speak. Records and timelines can be examined. Independent experts can scrutinise the evidence. Findings and recommendations can be published for everyone to see. A People’s Tribunal is not a court of law and cannot itself convict or impose legal penalties. But that does not make it powerless. Its power is evidence, testimony, scrutiny and public accountability. It can bring together stories that have been treated as isolated incidents and ask whether they reveal something much bigger. It can preserve evidence. It can expose contradictions. It can document recurring failures. And where evidence indicates potential criminal, regulatory or professional wrongdoing, that evidence can be referred to the authorities with the power to act. For too long, families have waited for institutions to investigate institutions. We don’t have to wait. We can organise. We can listen. We can document. We can scrutinise. We can publish. This isn’t about politics. It isn’t about personalities. And it isn’t about another expensive report gathering dust. It’s about mothers. Babies. Families. Midwives. Evidence. Truth. I am setting the intention today: WE WILL CONDUCT A PEOPLE’S TRIBUNAL. Conducted by the people, for the people. No more silence. No more waiting. PEOPLE. EVIDENCE. TRUTH. CHANGE.
