Early hike in the mountain with Wim and the dogs, foraged two bags of bamboo shoots.
One bag for us and one for a friend who with old age is now unable to safely forage in the mountains. Foraging for bamboo shoots and mushrooms was something she really enjoyed, a reminder that age catches up with everyone.
A short scooter 🛵 ride to drop off the bamboo, check up on Dollar and her puppies, give her food, a supplement and fresh water.
I noticed that the early morning cloud had provided Dollar and her new home with shade from what would usually be scorching heat.
I thought if the clouds dispersed her new home, made from corrugated metal would be like an oven, the maternity den is designed to maintain a level temperature as well as offering some protection from predators.
The clouds dispersed, this was a real concern. Panicked we quickly went to check on her. The home was hot, scorching hot, the puppies were making a lot of noise and Dollar was panting heavily.
The solution would be a temporary white plastic cover to reflect the sunlight while we rushed to buy an umbrella and a cover that we could soak in water to draw the heat of of her house.
Hardware stores were shut, it was still early, the home depot would have what we needed.
The shade of the Umbrella with the wet blanket quickly cooled Dollars house, she soon stopped panting and her babies calmed into a snooze.
Disaster averted
Another check back on them before the direct sun was blocked behind our friends house (they built the house for Dollar but were away last night). Dollar doing well, puppies feeding and looking well.
The new Umbrella will be good on our patio but for the time being it has a more important job to do 😅
