🇬🇲 THE GAMBIA A SMALL COUNTRY WITH A BIG HISTORY
The Gambia may be one of the smallest countries on the African mainland but our history and culture are much bigger than our size.
Our country is shaped by the Gambia River which has connected communities supported fishing and farming, and played an important role in the lives of generations of Gambians. Along the river and throughout the country, you can find villages traditional communities, historic places ancient stone circles, markets farms and cultural traditions that tell stories about where we came from.
The people of The Gambia are also part of what makes this country special. Different communities and ethnic groups have their own languages, traditions, music, clothing, foods, stories, and customs. These traditions have been passed from parents to children for generations.
When we talk about Gambian history we should remember that history is not only about famous people or important dates. It is also about ordinary people our grandparents, our parents farmers fishermen traders craftsmen mothers fathers, and young people who have kept their communities and traditions alive.
From ancient sites such as the stone circles of Senegambia to the vibrant culture we see in Gambian communities today, there are many stories waiting to be discovered.
I want to use this platform to share more of The Gambia 🇬🇲 with the world our history, our people, our nature, our culture, our traditions, and the places that make this little country home.
We may be small on the map, but our story is big. 🇬🇲❤️
