Inspired by prison stories told by my brother when I was in middle/high school, the reality is that freedom is what prisoners want most, but the majority will never obtain it. –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– The Prison Cage Bird Sings –––

Their tongues beg for a decent meal to feast on The buzzer on the cell block rings Up wakes the cage birds from their wishing dreams Angry at themselves, flashbacks of their unlawful crimes It’s been years since the birds have seen the sun warm their skins In the deep winter their body temperature is the same as the snow Teeth are becoming rotten, as each sunless day passes Only time they see light when the light Turns green, for execution Prayers are said for hope, but it means nothing to an empty mind While in darkness Most cage birds stomach growls loud, like a man-eating lion The food they eat contains maggots cooked into spoiled soup Stomachs are satisfied, but not for long It's released out of their mouths during the night Their cages cannot be put into words Only a rock stone bed, the reading books are used as pillows That leaves the title on their necks every sunrise Every so often a break is given, a release from unbroken cages To the empty mind they are free from the hell hole Into a bigger one, what such freedom is given Hugging the bared fence for a free life Knowin it's years before the birds fly freely Looking through a bar window, only things in sight that’s noticeable A cold-hearted soul that wears a shining badge To protect and serve, yes, it’s true, but only themselves; There used to be peaceful singing by the birds when free Buzzer rings again This is why the prison cage birds sings
